Please Note: We have now found a new product that makes this possible. The results are fantastic.
So The SHORT Answer is NOW YES!
THE SHORT ANSWER IS NO! The long answer is more complicated. Your Rolex was designed to have either a plastic crystal or a sapphire crystal. In general terms, a plastic crystal has thicker case wall dimensions than a sapphire crystal. This is because a plastic crystal fits over a flange on the case that is rather thick. Because of this, the other attachments, such as the bezel has a larger inside diameter to allow for the thickness of the plastic crystal. As sapphire crystal has a precision ground groove around the outer diameter of the crystal. A nylon insert fits into this groove. Then the bezel and other attachments are installed which hold the crystal into place. These items all have a smaller inside diameter to allow for the dimensions of the sapphire crystal.
There are some other things to think about. A sapphire crystal is flat on both the lower and upper surfaces. A plastic crystal is somewhat dome shaped. This is to allow for things like a sweep second hand. So if you make an attempt to use a flat sapphire crystal on watches designed for a plastic dome shaped crystal, there might not be clearance for the hands which could then drag on the crystal.
In other technical terms, your Rolex was designed for the crystal it came with. This assures that your Rolex can withstand the test for water resistance as all matching component parts fit together in order to resist water.
So it is our policy that we will never alter any Rolex watch in order to install crystals that were not designed for a particular model Rolex. This policy safeguards your valuable Rolex watch and its internal components.
